This was the first image collection I started after I put together a portfolio for art school (I did not get a scholarship and then, separately, was not able to enroll). I really was trying to use the canvas space in a new way. My inclination is to find ways to make little separation between the design and the non-image space that borders it. With these designs, I made drastic cuts and then put the roots at the bottom of each image. I used a collage technique that mixed industrial structures with 1950s advertising. I also learned a lot about the color palette and gradient layers with this design. Thematically, this is about a break up.
